Reuniting Families, Building Futures Together in Canada
As an experienced Canadian immigration consultant, I provide comprehensive family sponsorship services to help Canadian citizens and permanent residents bring their loved ones to Canada. With current policy changes and complex requirements, professional guidance is essential to navigate the family class immigration system successfully.
Spousal & Partner Sponsorship
Reunite with your spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner through Canada’s spousal sponsorship program. This pathway offers one of the most direct routes to Canadian permanent residence for family members.
Q1. Who Can Be Sponsored?
Spouse: Legally married partner (same-sex or opposite-sex marriages recognized)
Common-Law Partner: Couples who have cohabited continuously for at least 12 months in a conjugal relationship
Conjugal Partner: Partners in a committed relationship for at least one year who cannot live together due to circumstances beyond their control
Sponsor Eligibility Requirements:
- At least 18 years of age
- Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or registered Indian under the Canadian Indian Act
- Living in Canada (or Canadian citizen abroad with intent to return)
- Able to provide for basic needs of family members
- Not receiving social assistance (except for disability reasons)
- No criminal record or serious offenses
Key Program Features:
Processing Time: Approximately 12 months for most applications
Inland vs. Outland Options: Choose the pathway that best suits your situation
Spousal Open Work Permit: Eligible spouses can work in Canada while their application is processed
No Income Requirement: Generally no minimum income requirements (with limited exceptions)
Financial Undertaking Obligations:
When you sponsor your spouse or partner, you enter into a 3-year financial undertaking that begins when they become a permanent resident. This legally binding commitment means you are responsible for:
- Food, clothing, shelter, and everyday living needs
- Dental care, eye care, and healthcare not covered by public health insurance
- Repaying any social assistance they may receive during the undertaking period
Important: The undertaking remains in effect even if your relationship ends, your financial situation changes, or the sponsored person becomes a Canadian citizen.
Current Fees (2025):
- Sponsorship Fee: CAD $85
- Principal Applicant Processing Fee: CAD $545
- Right of Permanent Residence Fee: CAD $575
- Total for Spouse/Partner: CAD $1,205
